From the survey we sent out regarding Microsoft Teams and your level of comfort with and adoption of Teams, here are some of the most frequently asked questions and a response to these queries.

Q: Found if too many students turn their microphones on then the line gets very scratchy and we cannot hear well. How do we get around this when we are wanting to chat? All mikes off and turn on when want to talk and then turn off again? Then forget to turn off again?

A: As the meeting organiser, you have the option to mute all attendees, as well as selectively muting and un-muting a participant.

Q: Can I send work out and collect it via Teams?

A: Yes, you can set up an assignment in your team, and assign this to your students. Then you can mark and grade the responses from within teams. You can also create your own rubric to mark against.

Some comments and our response:

C: Didn't even know about the other features other than meetings.

R: Check out the  button for more helpful hints and tips for Teams.

C: When trying to deliver to a group of yr 9's or 10's having more control over them would be great. Having the students able to mute the teacher's mic etc is a bit of a problem.

R: This is a feature request that has been submitted to the developers for further consideration.

C: At this stage, I feel I haven’t had the opportunity to utilise all the features. There has been no training as to how to make a call or video, so many of the features are unknown to me. I can answer a video call but that about it!!

R: There are quite a few resources that might be of help for you:

Other comments:

  • Has been a great tool to utilise whilst working from home.
  • Thanks for all your hard work with getting this up and running - it's been great.
  • Teams has been useful for the staff to use and is a very helpful tool. It was not appropriate for use with the Year 4 students as they had too much control to mute and unmute themselves and others, contact and message other students outside of their year level and generally use the app inappropriately. Unless students are restricted in what they are able to do with Teams it may become very problematic due to inappropriate use.
  • Just started using Teams, but has been positive
  • Happy with initial use. Haven't had much exposure to MS Teams yet. May benefit from a small group PD to see further ways to implement teams into workflow and general business.
